Your Divine Mother

Posted by sibbia on October 17, 2007

Who is God? What is God?  What images does the word bring to mind for you?

Far too often God is depicted as a stern, judgmental Father, someone to whom you must answer for all the wrongs committed in your lifetime.  Perhaps this is why many have moved to use the term, the Universe or Creator, but what is it that you picture when you call out to the Universe to support you?  What image comes to mind when you ask the Creator for help?

Just how should one picture God in our prayers and meditations?

This may help:

“I have trouble visualizing God,” complained a student of religious New Thought.  “I’ve imagined Him as Infinite Intelligence, as the I AM principle, as my God-Self within, as the Cosmic Ground of Being.  It all seems so abstract!  But your relationship with the Lord is so loving.  How can I achieve such a relationship?”

“The first step,” replied the Master, “is not to imagine that He wants your definitions.  He wants only your love.

“Why not,” Yogananda then suggested, “worship the Infinite as your Divine Mother?”

“What a lovely idea!” exclaimed the visitor. “But is it valid? Is it true?”

“Indeed, yes!” replied Sri Yogananda emphatically.  “God’s love is already reflected in human relationships.  His love, like the sunlight shining on countless pieces of glass, is reflected everywhere.”

“The Infinite is the Mother behind all human mothers, the true Father behind all human fathers.  He is the ever-loyal Friend behind all earthly friends.  He is the eternal Beloved behind all human loves.  He is all things to all men, because, you see, the Lord is everything.”

“Through your parents He cares for you, supports you, and protects you.  Through your friends He shows you that love is a free sharing, without any hint of compulsion.  Through the beloved He helps one to find the selfless intensity of divine love.  Through people’s children He helps them to understand love as something precious, as a thing to be protected from harmful influences and nourished with devotion.

“Countless are the forms in which God comes to man.  In each, He seeks to teach man something of His infinite nature.  The lessons are there, for anyone whose heart is open to receive them.

“Thus, it isn’t that the Lord wants you to deny your human nature.  What He wants, rather, is for you to purify it:  to expand whatever love you feel in your heart, and not to keep it locked up in ego-attachments.

“For the devotee, it is natural therefore to worship God in some human aspect:  as his Divine Mother, for example, or as his Heavenly Father.

“I myself worship the Mother aspect, especially.  For the Mother is closer than the Father.  The Father aspect of God represents that part which is aloof from His creation. The Mother is creation itself.  Even among mankind, the human father is more disposed than the mother to judge their erring children.  The mother always forgives.

“Pray, then, to the Divine Mother.  Talk to Her like a child: ‘Divine Mother, naughty or good, I am Your own.  You must release me from this delusion.’  The Mother ever responds with compassion when the devotee prays to Her sincerely in this way.

“Of course, in the highest sense God is none of the forms in whicih people worship Him.  But it is helpful to use human concepts as a means of deepening our devotion to Him.

“Beyond devotion comes divine love.  In that perfection of love there is complete union.  In that state the yogi realizes the supreme truth:  ‘I am That.’ “

Prayer Request, New Shop, New Domain

Posted by sibbia on August 16, 2007

This will also be added to my news page, but I wanted to make sure everyone had a chance to read it so here goes:

 News Update for 8/16/07

First, I wanted to announce that we’re moving soon!  That’s right.  My own domain has been registered (www.sibbia.com) and I am in the middle of learning how to install and host my own wordpress powered blog.  This will make it easier to produce the podcast and add my own video content.  I’m excited!

Second, the first of my motivational pictures and notecards are for sale online!  I promise to keep the advertising to a minimum but at least they’ll be my own products (which I think are a great fit for all my readers) as opposed to columns and columns of ads. 🙂  You can visit the beginnings of my store here:  www.sibbia.etsy.com.  I hope selling online will be a great supplement to my vending, especially when I look at my fall schedule of classes.  Let me know what you think of my pictures!

Last, but definitely not least, I ask that you continually keep Anne in your hearts and prayers.  Her story has been moved to its permanent home here:  https://sibbia.wordpress.com/prayer-request/  Please send her light, love and encouragement.

Seeing for you a life blessed beyond your wildest dreams,

Food For Thought

Posted by sibbia on August 15, 2007

foods1.jpg

I think it’s becoming clear by now that I am a big fan of including many simple practices for focusing our thoughts, goals and intentions into our daily routine.  Whether we are looking to experience a greater sense of our connection to all things and our place in the Universe, to find guidance on a particular issue, or achieve some physical manifestation, it is beneficial to have as many reminders of our goal as possible — particularly things that excite one or more of the senses.

Art, music and reading have been discussed as potentially untapped sources of inspiration for our daily meditation practices and they can be potent tools when used well.  But there is something else that can engage all our senses and also serve as a creative platform for visualization, affirmations and thanksgiving.  And that would be…

Our food.

Now before you leave the page thinking that I’m finally off my rocker, I ask you to have an open mind.  Many of us were taught to say a prayer over our food, to give thanks before we eat.  For some of us this process is now done quickly without much, if any, thought.  For others it’s been relegated to distant childhood or yearly family gatherings.

But it would be helpful for us all.

When you can, make the process of preparing and eating your food one of thanksgiving, whether it be a simple lunch or elaborate banquet.  Be thankful for the food, your ability to prepare it, the circumstances in your life that have kept you fed.  Bless the food.  See it sustaining you, doing its part to help you achieve your goals.  In that state, take a moment to picture what you want to accomplish and be thankful that it (or something better) will come to pass.

Be happy!  Be cheerful!  Be thankful!

Bon Appetit!!

Prayer Request

Posted by sibbia on August 14, 2007

hands-and-bible.jpg

Wherever two or more are gathered in my name, there I am.

There is, there always has been and always will be, power in prayer.  And just as there is strength in numbers physically, there is strength in combined prayer.

Prayer is sustaining and comforting.  To have the support of a prayer group is encouraging and tremendously more powerful than going it alone.  That said, I’m asking my readers for their help and support for one of our own.  Forgive me for not being able to do this story justice.

Turning Obstacles into Victory

Anne is a 54 year old woman from a small town and still believes in (and reflects) the traditional small-town virtues of respect, honesty, loyalty, perseverance and hard-work.  After 13 years in the manufacturing field, her life took a sudden turn when she was hurt on the job.  In her own words:

“being hurt at work and having people I’d worked with for over 12 years and believed to be friends, turn on me was very painful. But it presented me with the opportunity to finish my book…”

After only nine months back at the workplace, Anne was in a car accident which totaled her truck and left her in need of healing and unable to return to her previous line of work.

For over a year, Anne has worked on recovering and helping her family, all the while depleting her savings, and now after 28 years of payments, she is being threatened with losing her home in November.

P.U.S.H

November is three months away!  Our life situation can change overnight and any challenge or crisis is a situation we can learn from and overcome.  Afterall, the Universe has an abundant supply if we just learn to see and tap into it.  There is most certainly a supply for every demand.  That said, I ask that we all help Anne p.u.s.h!

Pray Until Something Happens!

Here is the summary of the story in Anne’s own words:

“Many things led up to this ..an accident at work which had to be fought with workman comp..then no sooner back to my job of 13 years, I was rear-ended on a blizzard day bringing my son home from the VA hospital. {decided} No fighting that battle with work so I quit to heal, lived off my 401k but healing was for naught…the lawsuit just settled as most settle…very little. BUT my time off gave me the opportunity to finish my first book… my aged parents have me at their full disposal which I am very grateful for, because of the accident my veteran son decided it was time he try to become better by accepting his ptsd, bi-polar and manic depression, take his medication and help the others vets coming home, my daughter is trying to improve her life and I will soon begin college for my Pastoral degree. The Lord works in mysterious ways and I begrudge no-one, none or nothing.”

Please include Anne in your prayers, meditations and visualizations.  Send her love and light and support.  You can leave comments for her here and I will soon create a permanent page for this prayer request (and any others that come to me).  Anne can be contacted directly at:  annies_star@tds.net.

Seeing is believing and believing is achieving — help me prove that statement beyond a shadow of any doubt.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

Namaste,

When God Says, “No”

Posted by sibbia on August 9, 2007

While I shuffled through and ordered my thoughts, mentally creating a list of what I intended to accomplish, I thought about my children who were unexpectedly home with me.  What they were going to do and what they would enjoy?  Realizing that the computer was the only thing that was absolutely essential for me to get a meaningful amount work done, I opted for a field trip.  It was the perfect time for a trip to the park!

As I packed up the lawn chair, laptop, books and other necessities, my son came into the room to ask if he could go outside.  Knowing that we were headed to the park, and that he would enjoy running through the grass and trees much more, I said no.  He turned tail and left, a bit upset, and I continued packing.

Ten minutes later, he was happy and cheerfully urging me out the door so we could get to the park.  It was a pleasant trip and more than he asked for initially.

As a parent, I don’t say no to my children out of anger or just for the purpose of withholding something.  As always I do my best to function with their best interest at heart.

Could we expect God, as the ultimate parent, to do any less?

So remember when you don’t seem to be seeing the results you expect from your prayers, affirmations or other work, don’t despair… God simply has something better planned for you!

Life’s Peaks and Valleys

Posted by sibbia on August 6, 2007

blue-sine-waves.jpg

Life is cyclic.  Seasons change, flowers bloom, then wither and die only to bloom again.  The first buds on a tree’s bare branch heralds the coming of spring then becomes a profusion of flowers, an abundance of shading giving summer leaves, a glorious shower of fall foliage, only to become a bare branch once again.

Neither state is any better or worse than another.  All are necessary and each has its place.  It is simply the way of the world.  There are periods of growth and abundance, as well as death and decay.  Our lives also have these same periods.

Most of the time these seasons are reflected in our lives in the course of a month, a week, or the 24 hours of a day.  If drawn on a graph they would be be shown as many, relatively small, ups and downs.  Nothing too dramatic or earth-shaking.  Life is relatively stable.

There are periods, however, when everything seems to slide downhill.  Health problems, death in the family, marriage troubles, sudden financial loss… they all pile together, gradually picking up steam, until they appear to charge at you with an unstoppable momentum and you are faced with an overwhelming feeling of loss, fear or despair.

Yet… however bad things many seem… whatever problems you are facing… you can handle it.

Life never gives you more than you can handle.  It only seems that way.  So when something has done its best to bring you low, look up!  Aim high!  And be thankful!

Be thankful?  Yes, thankful!  Be glad, be joyful, get happy!  Have you never seen the pendulum on a grandfather clock?  Have you never noticed that however low a sine wave goes, it rises again to a peak just as high?  After every winter, spring comes again.  After every night, a sunrise!  Has the dawn ever failed you?

No matter how long or dark your personal winter is… no matter what choices, conditions or situation brought it about… spring WILL comes.  Hold to that vision of spring.  Turn whatever challenge you are facing, big or small, into an opportunity for growth.

I remember hearing a story of a woman who created a fortune for herself by inventing a gadget that kept toddlers from unrolling the toilet paper!

Every challenge or problem is nothing but a stepping stone to your own good, if you choose to see it that way.

Remember, seeing is believing and believing is achieving.  See your way to happiness, love, joyful abundance and lasting health.

Namaste.

Effortless Meditation (Part 3 of 3)

Posted by sibbia on August 3, 2007

The simple meditation techniques covered so far in this series were reading, music and focused daydreaming (or visualization).  This post discusses using art as a simple, effective meditation tool.

 Art

As discussed in the previous post, images can have a profound impact on our thoughts, emotions, and even future.  Because of this, it is a good idea to choose to use them consciously. Surround yourself with a few beautiful, meaningful, and/or inspiritual pictures.  Make them unique to you — an image that speaks to something specific in your life.

Across from me now is a large picture of a young girl holding a small yellow flower with a soft city landscape in the background.  At times when I stare at her she seems happy, other times pensive, sometimes her large, brown eyes seem to watch me.  For me, this girl represents my daughter and so it has meaning.  It is also a useful focal point for meditations concerning my daughter or my children in general.  Just having it there often sparks a short meditation.

There are other pictures there, but none nearly so large or so prominent.  Rather unintentionally at the time, I chose pictures which stood for what was important in my life, things that had my focus.  What we concentrate on increases; what we dwell on is what we draw to us.  Pick your images with that in mind and allow them to guide your thoughts.  Allow them to keep your mind focused or simply affect you by being something you see every day without fail.  Take a few moments to be conscious of your surrounding and to remember why you’ve chosen to place certain images around you.

This will surely create a positive effect over time.

This series has covered four ways you can simply incorporate a more focused way of living into your daily life.  Each of them can be used singly or together, at virtually any time or place. This process of focusing the mind is a meditation technique as valid as any other and provides noticeable results.

May it help to guide you and serve as a powerful tool in helping you accomplish your goals.

Namaste.

Personal Account 8/3/07 — Divine Guidance

Posted by sibbia on August 3, 2007

One thing I often suggest is that we affirm and request Divine guidance in our lives.

Two sample affirmations are:

I request the unfolding of God’s Divine plan in my life.

Old things fall away and I am guided to the right people and right circumstances

to manifest the beauty of God’s plan for my life now.

I call on and follow intuition, my inner knowing,

and I am led to just the right action, at the right time.

But in addition to regular affirmations, it is important to reach out to the Universal mind whenever a decision needs to be made.  Request that God’s wisdom help you decide how to proceed and ask for a definite sign or hunch.  It will be given to you.

Lately, I have been wondering what I could or should add to my product line.  An idea came to me but I wasn’t sure if it was something I should pursue.  I began my normal process of weighing the pros and cons, costs and potential benefits (I do study engineering afterall) when I remembered to let go and simply ask for a direct sign.

Shortly thereafter, I realized I hadn’t read Today’s Daily Word in a few days and looked at today’s message:

New Adventures

I move forward with enthusiasm for my next adventure.
Now is the time time for the good and the new for acting on ideas that have inspired me. As a child of God, I am guided in ways that lead me to share more good with more people.

I release any unproductive or stagnant patterns from my past and embrace the innovative. My new adventures take many forms, and this may bring a time of change to my lifestyle. I may have opportunities for a new career, to relocate, or to travel. This very day, I discover expanded ways to serve God.

With each adventure, I experience greater freedom of expression. Valuing opportunities to share, I give the very best I have to give and I receive with gratitude. I welcome new adventures, the freedom they bring me, and the good they bring into my life and into the lives of others.

Whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all. — Galatians 6:10

For this to be the first thing I read after having just requested Divine guide and a definite sign, was crystal clear to me.  I should pursue the other line of inventory.  More importantly, I was told why and how I should do it.  It is just another way to serve God and share more good with more people.  I consider the chance to do that a blessing and something I am happy to pursue.

Asking for Divine guidance provided me with a clear, simple answer which completely bypassed the reasoning mind.  I am grateful for the ability to ask what I should do and find out!

I hope this story helps lead others to request and receive guidance in their affairs.  As always, let me know!

God is Watching!

Posted by sibbia on August 2, 2007

God is watching through your child’s eyes,

God is watching through birds in the skies.

That lone oak stands sentinel too,

and the wind through its leaves whispers God’s words to you.

And the beautiful butterfly that just floated by?

Was just God’s way of saying hi.

God must be watching all you do,

because there’s God looking through your eyes too!

                                                                — Zakiya Carter

A simple, yet very powerful thought to guide our actions is that God is watching.  If the Divine exists in everything we can never be alone, we can never do anything in private.  Accepting and acknowledging the fact that God is always watching can change our actions, if we allow it.

I invite my readers to try living under the realization that God is watching and sees everything we do for two days.  In what way does it change what you do or say?  Does it help you feel closer and more connected to the Divine?

This was the thought I was led to share today.  The final installment of the Effortless Meditation series should appear tomorrow.

Namaste!

Creating Spiritual Surroundings

Posted by sibbia on June 22, 2007

This is from today’s daily word. It is a message we could all stand to hear repeated time and time again. Many things our on spiritual path are like that. We’ve heard the message before, understand it, even believe it, but they’ve failed to make a lasting impression on how we live our lives. The ideas have failed to move from the province of belief and intellectual understanding to a deeper knowing that guides our actions.

One way to make spiritual principles a constant part of your life is to make them a constant part of your day. Listen to and read motivational messages, surround yourself with love, beauty and nature whenever possible, spend a moment to recite a few affirmations, say a prayer and contemplate your spiritual beliefs and goals. Above all, develop strong friendships with others who share your goals and beliefs; they will sustain you.

This blog is meant to help us begin to accomplish that. In that vein, here is a message that has helped me today. May it provide inspiration for you as well.

Divine Order

With a peaceful mind and a faith-filled heart, I trust God for right results.

With trust in God, I let go of any apprehension about what might happen today and accept bright, new possibilities. I relax knowing that divine order is unfolding.

Everything necessary for this day to be a success is coming together. Each person involved is inspired to contribute in positive and meaningful ways. Harmony, peace, and mutual respect are evident in every interaction. The activities of this day flow smoothly and bring about exceptional results.

As the day progresses, I may require an extra measure of reassurance and strength. Restating my daily affirmation helps me realign my perspective with thoughts of divine order. Placing my trust in God for right outcomes, I participate in the activities that are mine to complete today.

“He has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure.”— 2 Samuel 23:5

Remember that seeing is believing and believing is achieving. When you read these words, take a moment to picture the truth of them in your mind’s eye. See it, believe it, achieve it.
